About Legacy of Ys: Books I & II

Legacy of Ys: Books I & II is a compilation role-playing game that brings together two seminal entries in the Ys series, originally released for PC and later ported and enhanced for the Nintendo DS. This package delivers the foundational adventures that established the franchise's real-time combat and exploration.

In Ys Book I, you step into the boots of Adol Christin, a red-haired adventurer who arrives in the mysterious island of Ys amidst rising tensions. Your primary task is to explore dungeons, towns, and the wilderness, confronting monstrous foes by simply running into them to deal damage. You'll gather powerful items and pieces of the legendary Silver Armor to aid in your quest to understand and combat the demonic forces threatening the land.

Ys Book II expands upon the mechanics, introducing magic spells that Adol learns. This allows for a more varied approach to combat and puzzle-solving, and you'll also gain the ability to transform into a Rasteyan, enabling interaction with the native inhabitants of Ys and deepening your understanding of their culture and the ongoing conflict. The Nintendo DS version utilizes both screens, with the top displaying the game world and the bottom offering touch-based menu navigation and item management, making the classic experience feel fresh on the handheld.
